PURPOSE: A protective relay which includes a virtual failure waveform generation function is provided to reduce expensive testing device purchase costs and test costs which are necessary for installation and operation. CONSTITUTION: A protective relay comprises a voltage input part(100), a current input part(110), an analog to digital converter(120), a digital signal transceiver(200), a central processor(300), an operating display part(500), a communication signal input and output part(600), and a failure wave form setting part(700). The voltage input part is input voltage in a power line. The current input part is input current in the power line. The analog to digital converter converts an analog signal of the voltage and the current into a digital signal. The digital signal transceiver inputs an external digital signal or outputs a digital connection point signal including a trip. The operating display part inputs establishment and command of the protective relay or indicates internal calculation and a measuring result. The communication signal input and output part generates a communication signal for connecting to an external device. The failure wave form setting part gives an order for establishing a virtual failure waveform or changing the protective relay into a normal operation mode and a virtual operation mode. The central processor comprises a calculation and control part, a signal converter, and a virtual failure waveform generation part.
