A light-output device (1) comprising a carrier including electrical leads (2a-d); a light-source (3a-f) attached to the carrier in such a way that the light-source is electrically connected to at least two of the electrical leads comprised in the carrier; and a first thermo-responsive material (6) in thermal contact with the light-source (3a-f). The first thermo-responsive material (6) exhibits a transition from a first state to a second state different from the first state when the first thermo -responsive material is subjected to a temperature above a first activation temperature. By checking whether or not a transition from the first state to the second state has taken place, it can be determined whether or not the light-source has been operated in an overheating condition.
