<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive unit which discharges residual electric charge stored in a capacitor of the drive unit as quickly as possible, in a vehicle that can travel using electric power supplied from a power storage device. <P>SOLUTION: PCU (Power Control Unit) 120, i.e. a drive unit, drives a motor generator 160 using electric power from a power storage device 110. PCU 120 includes electric power conversion devices 130 and 140, a capacitor C2 and a controlling unit 370. When a crash is detected by a crush detector 180, the controlling unit 370 drives the electric power conversion devices 130 and 140 to discharge residual electric charge in the capacitor C2. A plurality of reverse conducting type semiconductor elements included in the electric power conversion devices 130 and 140, are respectively formed integrally with first semiconductor elements Q1-Q8 working as switching elements, and second semiconductor elements D1-D8 working as reflux diodes. When the crash of the vehicle 100 is detected, the controlling unit 370 varies voltage applied to gate terminals of the first semiconductor elements Q1-Q8 to increase power attenuation in performing reflux operation by the second semiconductor elements D1-D8. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
