<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage type water heater capable of preventing damage of a vacuum heat insulating material and slow leakage and suppressing deterioration in heat retaining function of the vacuum heat insulating material caused by secular change in a welded film part of the vacuum heat insulating material. <P>SOLUTION: The storage type water heater includes: a hot water storage tank 2 having a substantially cylindrical shape for storing hot water; and at least one of vacuum heat insulating materials 5a, 5b provided covering the hot water storage tank 2. Each of the vacuum heat insulating materials 5a, 5b has a core material and the welded film part 6 which extends outward without being bent from an edge of the core material. A gap 8a is provided between a pair of the edges disposed opposing each other.
