PURPOSE: A brake system for a wheelchair is provided to allow a patient to move toward a bed or another chair without the help of a protector. CONSTITUTION: A brake system for a wheelchair comprises: a foldable chair frame which supports a seat for a user; a pair of main wheels and front wheels rotationally supported by the chair frame; a main brake system which brakes the main wheels; a brake device for controlling the rotation of the main wheels by the tension of a wire; a close frame(110) to which a first support and a second support are connected by a central hinge; and a cylindrical brake operating part(120) which releases the braking force of the brake device.
