The method involves displaying information (15) i.e. navigation information, to a driver (12) of a vehicle by using a display unit (11) of a navigation system (10) as a text or a graphical representation of speech outputs. Viewing directions of eyes (14) of the driver are determined by using a camera (13) of the navigation system. A portion of the information is displayed on the display unit based on determination of whether the viewing directions are temporarily directed towards the display unit, where a road map (17) forms a portion of the information.
