PURPOSE: A vertical axis wind turbine capable of transforming the shape of blade according to the operation of hydraulic cylinder, a ship including the same, and an operating method thereof are provided to generate the wind power without affecting ship speed according to the transformation of blade shape. CONSTITUTION: A vertical axis wind turbine (100) includes a blade(10) and a piston(20). The blade is connected with the upper part of shaft(12) and the lower part of a cylinder(14), rotates by wind, and the shape of which changes according to the vertical movement of shaft. The piston is located on the lower part of shaft and vertically moves according to the amount of hydraulic oil which is filled in cylinder.
