[Class 2 (iii)] An adhesive for attaching polymers of ethylene which do not melt below about 100‹ C. to iron, steel, brass, zinc, aluminium, stone, brick, earthenware or portland cement, comprises 1 to 2 parts by weight of a polymer of ethyleneas defined above, and 1 part of a cyclo-rubber. The adhesive is prepared by mixing the ingredients for instance by milling them on a heated rubber mill. In bonding the polymer to the metal or other material, the adhesive is applied to the pre-heated material, the adhesive being either melted by contact or pre-heated, and the polymer is.then applied either as a preformed sheet, a powder, or as a paste in water. The process may be employed to provide vats, pans or other vessels with linings of high chemical resistance, and in the production of electrical equipment. Specification 471,590 is referred to.</p> |
