AIR CONDITIONER AND METHOD OF CONTROLLING THE SAME

PURPOSE: An air conditioner and a control method thereof are provided to effectively control the amount of refrigerants circulating in a refrigerant cycle by temporarily holding the refrigerants in a receiver. CONSTITUTION: An air conditioner comprises a receiver (260), a gas-liquid separating unit, and a second temperature sensor. The receiver holds some of refrigerants passing through a condenser, and comprises a first temperature sensor and a heater for heating the refrigerants. The refrigerants in the receiver travels to the gas-liquid separating unit and the gas-liquid separating unit supplies vapor refrigerants to a compressor. The second temperature sensor senses the temperature of the gas-liquid separating unit. The heater is controlled on the basis of temperature information from the first and second temperature sensors.
