The present invention relates to a method for preparing modified red mud, wherein the method comprises the steps of: (a) preparing a red mud solution having chloride by adding chloride to red mud; (b) preparing a polymer solution by dispersing a polymer, which is selected from the group consisting of polystyrene, polymethylmethacrylate, and silica microsphere, in water; (c) preparing a surfactant solution by mixing a surfactant, water, and chloride; (d) adjusting the pH by mixing all of the solutions prepared in steps (a), (b), and (c); and (e) obtaining a final product by adding ammonia water to the solution undergoing step (d) and then filtering the solution having ammonia water added thereto.
