546,075. Stiffening artificial textile fabrics. COURTAULDS, Ltd., and McFARLANE, R. A. Dec. 24, 1940, No. 7095/42. Divided out of 546,052. [Class 2 (ii)] [Also in Group VIII] Bolting cloth, grit gauze or the like is made by weaving in a plain weave thermoplastic artificial threads containing one or more continuous filaments and preventing the threads from slipping over one another by thermally welding the warp and weft threads at their crossings, with or without the use of a swelling agent. When multi-filament threads are used they should be given sufficient twist, e.g. 10-40 turns per inch to confine the filaments to the parent thread. As thermoplastic threads there may be used those of cellulose acetate or of a resin formed by co-polymerization of vinyl alcohol and vinyl acetate, e.g. of the resin sold under the Registered Trade Mark " Vinyon." In an example, a plain woven fabric made of " Vinyon " threads is subjected to a decatizing (dry steaming) treatment or to a calendering treatment at 150‹F. or more. Specifications 462,242, 499,106, [Group V]; and 513,354 are referred to.
