PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine control device improving driveability through control over a variable valve train. SOLUTION: This engine control device changes over the opening/closing characteristic of an intake valve 33 through the control over the variable valve train 5. The opening/closing characteristic of the intake valve 33 when the valve opening period of the intake valve 33 is longest or longer is regarded as an initial opening/closing characteristic. Based on the fact that an ignition switch 97 is changed over to an off position, the opening/closing characteristic of the intake valve 33 is changed toward the initial opening/closing characteristic.
