PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle control device and a vehicle control method capable of securing the stability of a vehicle during emergency steering. SOLUTION: A front wheel steering mechanism 12 and a rear wheel steering mechanism 15 are driven based on a target front wheel steering angle θt and a target rear wheel steering angle δt calculated based on a target yaw rate ϕ't and a target lateral speed V<SB>y</SB>t. When emergency steering by an operator is detected, target values (target lateral acceleration, target yaw rate) are corrected with a larger degree of reduction to stabilize a vehicular behavior as its emergency degree (degree of abrupt steering for emergency avoidance Ks) is higher.
