A shock absorber comprising a cylinder, a piston, a piston rod, and a damping passage which connects an extension-side chamber and a pressure-side chamber is provided with: a pressure chamber formed by a cylindrical housing which is provided to the piston rod at a position further toward the extension-side chamber side than the piston, and by a piston holder to which the piston is mounted and which closes the opening of the housing; a free piston slideably inserted into the housing and dividing the pressure chamber into an extension-side pressure chamber which connects to the extension-side chamber through an extension-side channel, and into a pressure-side pressure chamber which connects to the pressure side chamber through a pressure-side channel; and a spring element for generating pressing force which reduces the displacement of the free piston relative to the pressure chamber. |
