PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processing system and an information processing method capable of easily adding a new function even after product shipment and also be dealt with by the same software even when a model is different.SOLUTION: An information processing system comprises: a television receiving device; and a portable terminal wirelessly connected to the television receiving device; and comprising control means that acquires a state signal from the television receiving device and supplies a control signal to the television receiving device. Any one of the television receiving device and the portable terminal comprise an interface for converting a state acquisition request and the control signal from the control means into a request and a signal to be decoded by the television receiving device, and converting the state signal from the television receiving device into a state signal to be decoded by the control means.
