摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect abrasion of a rotatable and cylindrical heat generating member in the longitudinal end part by using temperature detecting means.SOLUTION: An image heating device includes a rotatable and cylindrical heat generating member 1 and a pressure member 3 forming a nip part N by contacting with the heat generating member, and conveys a recording sheet P having an image t thereon and heats the image at the nip part. The image heating device also includes temperature detecting means 6b, and the heat generating member includes a high temperature area S0 for heating the image and a low temperature area S2 whose temperature is lower than that of the high temperature area in the longitudinal direction orthogonal to the recording material conveyance direction, and an area S1 in which both the high temperature area and the low temperature area exist in the rotation direction of the heat generating member, and which includes longitudinal width smaller than a movement amount in the longitudinal direction of the heat generating member before the heat generating member in the longitudinal end part is abraded. The abrasion of the heat generating member in the longitudinal end part is detected on the basis of temperature variation patterns of the areas of the rotating heat generating member detected by the temperature detecting means.
