PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high speed baggage diverter capable of diverting a variety of articles, including regularly shaped or irregularly shaped articles, at a high speed of sortation without attendant problems associated with a conventional diverter.SOLUTION: A diverter assembly includes: a substantially horizontal conveying surface; a pair of flipper assemblies which are colinearly aligned when in an actuated position; and a driven diverting surface defined on each flipper assembly. The diverter assembly further includes: an actuator which almost concurrently actuates the pair of flipper assemblies to their actuated positions and drives the diverting surfaces, and in this situation an article on the conveying surface is diverted. |
