In the discharge-oriented control, the engine (22) and the motor (MGI, MG2) are controlled such that a charging and discharging electric power of the battery (50) increases toward a discharging side when the temperature of the purification catalyst (134) is higher than or equal to the predetermined temperature as compared to when the temperature of the purification catalyst (134) is lower than the predetermined temperature. The predetermined temperature is lower than a degradation promoting lower limit temperature. Stated differenty, engine output is reduced to avoid damaging the catalyst.
