542,694. Piston extrusion apparatus. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and LEE, E. C. June 18, 1940, No. 10546. [Class 102 (ii)] Piston extrusion apparatus comprises an extrusion cylinder 8 to receive a close-fitting cartridge of plastic material and containing a piston 16 which is rigidly connected by a rod 15 to the piston 17 of a co-axial hydraulic cylinder 12. The cylinders 8, 12 are connected together by a bayonet catch or other quick locking and releasing device 13. The cartridge comprises a tube 1 which is closed at one end by a disc 2 the sweated or soldered joint of which is sheared through when hydraulic pressure is applied to the pistons 16, 17, the disc 2 and piston 16 entering the tube 1 to force the plastic material out through a conical nipple 4 in the centre of a disc 3 hard soldered to the opposite end of the tube. The nipple 4 is received in a counter sunk aperture in the cap 9 of the extrusion cylinder 8. The hydraulic cylinder 12 is provided with a leakage orifice 22 to indicate the end of the piston stroke.
