The modulation signal 115 is asynchronous with the non-modulated carrier signal 110, and is a repetition signal. The oscilloscope 205 simultaneously samples a quadrature phase of the modulated carrier signal 105 and the non-modulated carrier signal 110 plural times, respectively in a plurality of time steps for a pattern/trigger signal 210. After collecting this information and using a quadrature phase sample, a plurality of phases of the non-modulated carrier signal corresponding to the plurality of samples of the modulated carrier signal are calculated. When the non-modulated carrier signal synchronizes with the pattern/trigger signal, a plurality of samples of the modulated carrier signal corresponding to an advancement of the carrier signal phase that may be observed if the non-modulated carrier signal synchronizes with the pattern/trigger signal are selected, and a stabilized representation of the modulated carrier signal is calculated.
