<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focus detection device that enables detection of a direction of a distance of an object to be formed even when an amount of a defocus is undetectable.SOLUTION: The focus detection device according to the present invention includes: an image sensor that photoelectrically converts a first image and a second image formed by a first flux of light and a second flux of light passing through a mutually different area on an exit pupil of an optical system causing an object image to be formed on a scheduled focal plane, and generates a first image signal string and a second image signal string corresponding to the first image and the second image; and defocus direction detection means that detects a defocus direction of an imaging plane where an in-focus image of the object image is formed with respect to the scheduled focal plane on the basis of a difference between a signal string shape of the first image signal string and a signal string shape of the second image signal string.</p> |
