The present invention relates to a method for transmitting a media broadcasting signal and an apparatus for receiving the media broadcasting signal in a broadcasting system. The apparatus for receiving the media broadcasting signal comprises: a receiving unit for receiving a packet by a protocol for real time transport, wherein the payload of the packet includes a media file format (MFF) divided according to the type of data, and the divided media file format (MFF) file is one of an initial part MFF file comprising meta data having entire play information and initial play information, and a media part MFF file including meta data having media data and partial play information related to the media data; a parsing unit for distinguishing the meta data and the media data from each other by analyzing the media file format (MFF) file and extracting information required to play; a decoder for decoding the media file format (MFF) file output from the parsing unit; and a play unit for playing a decoded media file format (MFF) file by using the information extracted from the parsing unit.
