Said tow ball (3) comprises at least one sensor (15) for angle detection. In order to determine an angle (α) between the motor vehicle and a trailer when a tow ball receiving element (2) of the trailer is rotationally mounted on the tow ball (3) and is secured by means of a connection piece (7) to the tow ball (3). At least one sensor is formed on the tow ball (3) by at least one film sensor (15) in particular a plastic support which is MID compatible.
