BACKLIGHT UNIT

The present invention relates to a backlight unit for a liquid display device which employs a hybrid structure of a side light modulation method and a direct light modulation method based on the position of the light source arrangement. The backlight unit includes an optical guide body which form a grid shape by connecting multiple optical guide bars in the horizontal and vertical directions; a first light source which is arranged on an end of the optical guide bars to emit the light into the optical guide bars; and a second light source which is arranged in a space between the optical guide bars to emit the light in the upward direction. The present invention can uniformly emit light at a high brightness level by using the first light source which directly emits the light in the upward direction and the second light source emitting the light through the optical guide boy to ensure excellent optical characteristics.
