PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a computer implemented method and apparatus for managing aircraft software parts.SOLUTION: An aircraft software part management apparatus 400 comprises a library 406, a receiving module, a proxy server 414, an onboard electronic distribution system 420, and a portable software maintenance tool 418. The library stores and manages aircraft software parts. The receiving module receives the aircraft software parts 426 from suppliers and sends them to the library. The proxy server is in communication with the library and distributes software to a plurality of aircraft clients 424. The onboard electronic distribution system receives the aircraft software parts from the library through the proxy server. The portable software maintenance tool provides an alternate route to send the aircraft software parts to the onboard electronic distribution system.
