PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for accurately recognizing touch-based gestures and events even if they are detected outside intended user interface objects.SOLUTION: A method includes displaying a user interface of an application on a touch-sensitive display. The user interface includes a plurality of regions, including an individual region at an individual hierarchy level. The individual region has two or more child regions at a hierarchy level below the individual hierarchy level. Upon detecting a first contact at a location that corresponds to the individual region and that does not correspond to any of the two or more child regions, when the application is configured to process the first contact, not in conjunction with the individual region, but in conjunction with at least one child region of the two or more child regions, an individual child region is identified in accordance with positions of the child regions relative to the location, and the first contact is processed in conjunction with the identified individual child region by using the application. |
