The invention relates to different mechanical drive devices (100; 200; 300; 400; 500; 600; 700; 800) for a medical tool, which are designed to set the tool into an oscillatory rotational motion. The oscillatory rotational motion comprises an alternating rotation of the tool in a first direction of rotation (3) by a first angle of rotation and in a second direction of rotation (4), which is substantially opposite the first direction of rotation (3), by a second angle of rotation. The first and second angles of rotation preferably have different magnitudes, so that the tool experiences a rotational motion in a preferred direction in total when the tool is sequentially rotated in the first and second directions of rotation (3, 4) multiple times.
