<p>The present invention addresses the problem of providing: a polarizing plate that makes it possible to maintain the strong adhesive properties of a polarizer and a retardation film under a high-temperature and high-humidity environment even when an active energy ray-curable acrylic adhesive is used; and a VA-type liquid crystal display device that uses the polarizing plate. This polarizing plate comprises a retardation film and a protective film that are each bonded to one of the surfaces of a polarizer using an active energy ray-curable acrylic adhesive, and is characterized in that: the retardation film comprises a cellulose ester and a compound that limits the permeation ability of the abovementioned adhesive; the acyl group substitution degree of the cellulose ester is within a specific range; and the permeation depth of a test liquid used to evaluate the ability of the adhesive to permeate the retardation film when 4-hydroxydibutyl acrylate is used as the test liquid at 50° C for 30 seconds is within the range of 0.1-1.0 µm.</p> |
