<p>An apparatus is provided for determining that an absence of communication is not due to a blind spot. The apparatus is particularly suited for use as a home detention curfew system for monitoring an offender. The apparatus comprises a wrist or ankle worn tracking device 6 in regular communication with a residence monitoring unit 7. Upon absence of receipt of communication from the monitoring unit 7, the tracking device 6 starts monitoring of at least one variable related to the distance moved by the device 6 and/or the time elapsed. If the at least one variable meets a predetermined criterion, it is considered that the absence of communication from the monitoring unit 7 is not due to a blind spot. The residence monitoring unit 7, upon determining an absence of communication, may send a message to a remote monitoring system 1, which in response may initiate an alert.</p> |
