<p>551,461. Utilization of waste rubber. TREVES, A. April 22, 1941, No. 5187. [Class 70] Rubber materials, e.g. waste motor tyres or tubes, after grinding, e.g. to 12 to 15 mesh/inch, and mixing with up to 10 per cent. of abietic acid, e.g. powdered, sylvic acid, colophony, cumarone, copal &c. e.g. together with fatty oils, is agitated and heated for 1 to 2 hours to a temperature below that of normal vulcanizing, e.g. to 100 to 180‹C., the resin softening below such temperature but the rubber not being melted. The mixtures which contain 1 to 10 per cent. of resin may be dissolved in crude rubber solvents for cementing and waterproofing, or mixed with bitumen and sheeted &c.</p> |
