Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for managing a battery pack, which sense that a charging switch and a discharging switch formed on a charging and discharging path of the battery pack abnormally operate, and protect the battery pack from an abnormal situation. According to the present invention, the method for managing the battery pack comprises: a charging switching unit switching charging current provided to a battery cell to charge the battery cell provided in the battery pack; a discharging switching unit formed on the charging and discharging path of the battery pack, and switching discharging current provided from the battery cell; and a control unit measuring a number of at least one switching change in the charging switching unit and the discharging unit, and sensing abnormalities of the battery pack by using a number of the measured switching change. |
