PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide imide resin with industrially high versatility, which has excellent heat resistance as well alkali solubility. ! SOLUTION: The imide resin has one or more carboxyl groups in one molecule and is obtained by allowing an imide compound (A) having one or more carboxyl groups in one molecule to react with a compound (B) having two or more functional groups reactive with a carboxyl group. It is found that the imide resin develops alkali solubility while having excellent heat resistance.
