A tamping machine comprises a machine frame (2) movable on a track (4) by means of trucks (3), a tamping unit (10) arranged between the trucks (3), and a track lifting unit (11) arranged ahead of the tamping unit in a direction of operation (8). An auxiliary truck (15) is located between the tamping unit (10) and the rear truck (3), rear being in relation to the direction of operation (8). Said auxiliary truck (15) has track wheels (16) and can be selectively transferred, by means of a drive unit (18), from an operational position in which the auxiliary truck rests on the track (4), and a resting position in which the auxiliary truck is at a distance from the track (4). |
