According to the present invention, an electronic device includes: a low power sensor which senses whether an object moves; a camera which is activated and recognizes motion of an object when the lower power sensor senses motion of the object; and an operation unit which executes a predetermined operation when the motion recognized by the camera satisfies a predetermined condition. Power consumption of the low power sensor is less than power consumption of the camera. Power of the camera is controlled by using the low power sensor. Therefore, the present invention provides: the electronic device that can provide power to the camera only when the low power sensor senses motion; and a method for operating the same according to motion sensing.
