A hybrid supercharger (10) is equipped with: a first power conversion unit (12) having a function for converting direct-current power to alternating-current power and outputting the alternating-current power to a generator motor (30); a smoothing capacitor (18) provided between direct-current buses; and a control unit (40) that controls the first power conversion unit (12) such that the actual rotational frequency conforms to a rotational frequency command that has been input to the generator motor (30) from an upper-level control device during powered operation of the generator motor (30). During the powered operation of the generator motor (30), when the rotational frequency command for the generator motor (30) is less than the actual rotational frequency and the direct-current bus voltage is equal to or greater than a prescribed first threshold value, the control unit (40) changes the rotational frequency command to a value that is equal to or greater than the actual rotational frequency. Thus, it is possible to suppress an increase in the direct-current bus voltage during powered operation of the generator motor.
