In this wireless communication system, a parent node is provided with the following: a generating means for generating transmission requests that contain response-instruction data specifying child nodes that are supposed to respond and response timing for each of said child nodes; and a transmitting means for transmitting said transmission requests. In the response-instruction data, data indicating whether or not each child node is supposed to respond is preferably enumerated in an order that corresponds to node-identifying information for the respective child nodes. Each child node in this wireless communication system is provided with the following: a receiving means for receiving the aforementioned transmission requests; a response-necessity-determining means for determining, from response-instruction data, whether or not that child node needs to respond to a transmission request; and a response-transmitting means that, if a response to a transmission request is needed, transmits a response in accordance with response timing based on the response-instruction data. |
