A slide fastener reinforcing strap (50a) for securing across an opening formed between the first tape (16a) and second tape (16b) of a slide fastener (10). The reinforcing strap (50a) extends from a first end (54a) to a second end (56a) along a centreline (58a). The strap includes a first protrusion (60) between the first and second ends extending perpendicularly from the centreline (58a) to a free end (60a). The protrusion prevents the strap snagging on or jamming in the slider (11). The strap is particularly useful for watertight slider fasteners or a zip fastener on a tight-fitting article, such as a wetsuit, a drysuit, or a dress. The strap may have an additional second protrusion (64) extending in the opposite direction to the first. The strap may be generally planar and be formed from a flexible material and may also have pre-folds to allow it to be folded into a U-shape. The width (W) of the protrusion (60) may be greater than the width of the first arm (36a) and the second arm (36b) of the Y-shaped channel of the slider (11) to prevent the protrusion (60) jamming in either of the arms. |
