<p>A refrigerated environment, an atmosphere refiner and method of prolonging the life of perishable items stored in said environment. The environment, refiner and method all comprise an oxygen removal means. The oxygen removal means comprises a hydrogen fuel cell. The hydrogen fuel cell removes oxygen by combusting the oxygen within the environment producing H2O and electricity to power the fridge. The hydrogen fuel cell can also be a dual fuel cell. The refiner or environment can also be provided with a hydrogen generator. The heat generated by the hydrogen fuel cell can be used to warm the refrigerant. The environment or refiner can be part of a domestic refrigerator, industrial practice, transportation process, storage facility, container, food production, refrigeration unit or medical environment. The environment or refiner can also have an anti-microbial means. Parts of the oxygen removal means can be provided internally or externally (See figures 1 and 2).</p> |
