A riding boot (101, fig 1) has a heel 102, a sole 103, and an upper 104. The upper 104 comprises an inner side (106), an outer side 107, and fastening means. The inner side is formed substantially from an impermeable material, and the outer side is formed from an impermeable material within which is provided a first panel 108 formed from a breathable material. The boots allow moisture to escape and they are comfortable even in warm weather. The fastening means may be a hook and loop closure, laces, buckles or preferably a zip 111 extending up the back of the boot. The first panel preferably occupies 30% to 80% of the surface of the outer side of the boot and may have an addition second breathable panel 113 and spur rests 105. The boot may be a jodhpur boot (201, fig 5) with an additional elasticated portion (216, fig 6). A half-chap (300, fig 7) having a breathable panel (308, fig 8) is also disclosed. |
