A method of preparing a disinfectant solution from water comprises the manual combination of an aqueous hypochlorous acid solution or a solid precursor thereof, an acidifier and water to provide a disinfectant solution comprising hypochlorous acid. The solid precursor comprises a hypochlorite salt and a solid acidifier. The solid acidifier can comprise a bisulfate salt, preferably sodium bisulfate. In another aspect, a kit 2 for preparing a disinfectant solution comprises: a first receptacle 6 containing aqueous hypochlorous acid solution or a solid precursor thereof comprising hypochlorite salt and a solid acidifier; a second receptacle 12 containing an acidifier; and combination means for manually combining the aqueous hypochlorous acid solution or solid precursor, acidifier, and water to provide the disinfectant solution. The combination means may comprise instructions 32 for combining the aqueous hypochlorous acid solution or solid precursor, acidifier and water. The combination means can, alternatively or in addition, comprise a third receptacle, such as a spray bottle 22, for receiving the aforementioned components. The disinfectant solution may be used to treat wounds, sanitise hands or surfaces, counteract odours, as a mouthwash or for cleaning teeth, as a cleaning agent, to treat athletes foot, or to treat an infection. |
