The present invention relates to a cryostat (3 Fig 1), in particular for use in a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system. Furthermore, this invention relates to a method for reducing heat input into the cryostat. In order to provide a simple and reliable technique to reduce heat input into the cryostat during transportation, an insert 14, (28 Fig 3) is provided. The insert can be inserted into an opening 5, (27 Fig 3) of the cryostat, and the insert provides one or more passageways 23 for a cryogen 7 through the opening by defining at least one space 18 between the outer surface 19 of the insert and at least one part of the inner surface 21 of the opening. The space 18 allows the cryogen to pass over a part of the inner surface of the opening and in doing so provides cooling and thus reduces heat input into the cryostat during transportation. |
