<p>A method of assembling an airbag bag unit comprising the steps of providing a housing and an inflatable air bag 5 having at least one detachable positioning tab 16, locating the air bag relative to the housing by positioning the/each said tab in a respective predetermined index position, and removing the detachable tab(s) from the airbag at some point after the positioning step. Ideally, several positioning lugs / tongues / flaps 16 are provided. Each locating tongue / tab preferably has a hole 17 which is engaged by a tool 25 to correctly position the airbag before it is clamped 11 to the housing. The tabs are torn off preferably after the airbag is clamped to the housing. A frangible connection, e.g. by perforations or slits 20, 23, is preferably provided to enable the tab / ear to tear when pulled (see figures 2 and 3). Ideally the air bag is utilised to lift a bonnet of a car in an accident.</p> |
