A first part component (36) of the turbine housing is welded to a second part component (38). The two components are butted together (35). One surface (34) is welded, the finished weld (39) forming a semicircular-section strip formed from a welding rod harder than the material of the two part components. The stress on the welded component (28) may be concentrated in the weld.
