[Class 12 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] Electrically driven and like portable drilling- machines are fitted with a plate to be pressed against the work and moving in guides on the drill to constrain the movement parallel to the drill axis. A plate 4 has a welded-on collar 2, Fig. 1, by which it is attached to the drilling-machine 1 at 3. A second plate 7 has an aperture 10 through which the drilling point may be seen. Pins 6 secured to the plate are guided in burles 5 secured in the plate 4 and have reduced extensions surrounded by springs 8. Screws 9 limit the separation of the plates. In a modification improved guidance of the telescopic members is obtained by means of an inner sleeve 20, Fig. 3; with a partition 24 engaged by springs 27, 28 abutting end pieces 18, 25 in the tubes 17, 16 respectively. Separation of the members is limited by the engagement of guiding flanges 21, 22, and the sleeve 20, in addition to fitting the tube 17, has a flange 23 fitting the tube 16. The plate 4 is replaced by a casting 11 secured to the drill frame by a screw 12 and the reduced ends of the guide pins 13. The pins 13 may engage springs in the guides 15. In a further' modification the guide pins 13 are dispensed with, the tubes 16, 17 being fitted with a key and key way to prevent relative rotation. The end plate 14 may be shaped to engage curved work and has one opening or slot to enable the point of drilling to be seen. Projections in the opening may facilitate placing the drill in position, or the opening may be fitted with a bolt to fit an opening in a jig. The plate 7 may be formed as an electromagnet. |
