Identifying source of TTY based emergency call

An message may be sent to an emergency call center. Before the message is received by the emergency call center, it may be determined that at least a portion of the message is not formatted in accordance with a teletypewriter protocol. The message may be reformatted in accordance with a TTY protocol. A second message may be provided to a public safety answering point. The second message may comprise the reformatted message and an indication of the original protocol of the reformatted message.

1. A method comprising:
determining that at least a portion of a first message is not formatted in accordance with a first protocol; determining whether there is auxiliary information associated with a source of the first message; generating, via a protocol server, a reformatted message by converting each portion of the at least one portion of the first message to a respective portion formatted in accordance with the first protocol; and sending a second message to an intended recipient of the first message, the second message comprising the reformatted message and at least a portion of the auxiliary information associated with the source of the first message when there is auxiliary information associated with the source of the first message.
