A device for compressing composite plies, comprising: a tool formed of a ferromagnetic material against which a laminate charge is compacted, the tool having at least one inside corner, the laminate charge comprising a number of uncured composite laminate plies; a body adapted to be placed against the plies, the body comprising angled surfaces substantially matching the inside corner of the tool, wherein the body includes a paramagnetic material; at least one magnet on the body adapted to generate a magnetic force that compresses the plies against the tool; and a vacuum bag sealed over the tool, wherein the vacuum bag is configured to exert a first compaction pressure, the first compaction pressure pressing the body toward the inside corner such that the body compacts the laminate charge into the inside corner with a second compaction pressure.
