Embodiments of the invention are generally directed to a system and method for implicit transaction control. A transaction manager receives an indication that an operation is to be executed within a transaction. The transaction manager determines whether a preexisting transaction context is available to provide the transaction for the operation. The operation is enclosed within the preexisting transaction context, if the preexisting transaction context is available.

1. A computer-implemented method for managing transactions, the method comprising:
receiving, at a transaction manager at an implicit transaction management level, an indication that an operation associated with an application component at the implicit transaction management level is to be executed within a transaction of an application component at an explicit transaction management level, the application component at the implicit transaction management level not having access to a transaction manager at the explicit transaction management level, the application component at the explicit transaction management level having access to the transaction manager at the explicit transaction management level, the operation being associated with a virtual transaction, the virtual transaction existing at the implicit transaction management level but not the explicit transaction management level; enclosing the virtual transaction within a preexisting transaction context at the explicit transaction management level, if the preexisting transaction context is available; opening a new transaction context at the explicit transaction management level for the virtual transaction, if the preexisting transaction context is not available; and completing the transaction context after the operation is executed.
