A method for reading a pixel, including at least two integration periods, at least one of said periods including at least one integration sub-period, wherein an output value of the pixel is determined by taking into account the amounts of photogenerated charges contained in the pixel at the end of each of said periods and the amount of photogenerated charges stored in a photodiode of the pixel beyond a threshold during said at least one sub-period.

determining an amount of photogenerated charges in a pixel at an end of a first integration period; determining an amount of photogenerated charges in the pixel at an end of a second integration period; determining an amount of photocharges in the pixel beyond a threshold at an end of an integration subperiod; and determining an output associated with the pixel based on the determined amount of photogenerated charges in the pixel at the end of the first integration period, the determined amount of photogenerated charges in the pixel at the end of the second integration period and the determined amount of photocharges in the pixel beyond the threshold at the end of the integration subperiod.
