The present invention pertains generally to audio coding methods and devices, and more specifically pertains to improved methods and devices for transcoding encoded audio information in a first format to encoded audio information in a second format. In an exemplary transcoding method and device, first quantized values of an audio signal encoded in the first format are dequantized according to quantizing resolutions determined in response to one or more first control parameters. The dequantized values are quantized into second quantized values according to quantized resolutions determined in response to one or more second control parameters. The second quantized values, the one or more second control parameters, and second scale factors associated with the second quantized values, are assembled into an audio signal encoded in the second format.
