PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a molding material excellent in moldability especially with solution state and having a polyarylene sulfide skeleton and an optical member using the same.SOLUTION: There is provided a molding material having a repeating unit represented by the formula (I) and obtained through a process of oxidation polymerization using ortho or para quinone-based oxidant, and having a weight average molecular weight of 21000 or more, a number average molecular weight of 7000 or more and degree of dispersion of 3.0 or more. There is provided an optical member formed from a solution which the molding material is dissolved in a solvent as a raw material and formed through a process of removing the solvent.
